About Myself

Alena Liapko is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across drawing, painting, and printmaking medias. Renowned for her **exceptional technical precision**, particularly in ballpoint pen drawing, her practice explores the tension between control and spontaneity, realism and abstraction.

Guided by both **rigorous skill and an intuitive approach**, Liapko moves fluidly between materials and processes, allowing each work to unfold organically. Her drawings often begin with hyperreal detail—portraits, textures, or spatial forms—before dissolving into gestural ambiguity and open-ended compositions.

Rather than offering fixed narratives, her artworks are designed to **ask questions rather than give answers**, often challenging the viewer’s assumptions and **presuppositions** about form, perception, and meaning. Each piece invites a space of contemplation and uncertainty, where interpretation remains fluid and unresolved.

Liapko’s work has been exhibited in group and solo shows across National Capital Region of Canada as well as internationally, and continues to evolve through her deep commitment to exploration and reinvention. She lives and works in Canada, Ottawa/Gatineau Area.
